Neighbourhood Votes 2015

The Toronto Neighbourhood Centres' Neighbourhood Votes project will mobilize an extensive network of 33 community based agencies in Toronto. This reach will be magnified by agencies’ relationships with thousands of Toronto's racialized community members, immigrant community members, youth who are first-time voters, people living on low-incomes, and other equity seeking groups. Our goal is to increase levels of civic engagement, knowledge of government roles, and voter participation rates among these target communities in the 2014 municipal and the 2015 federal elections.

The project's engagement activities will reach more than 24,000 individuals each year.

We will conduct the following activities:

  • Develop and disseminate community tailored civic literacy training and educational materials (print and video)

  • Facilitate community conversations

  • Host local events and "democracy festivals" to celebrate first-time voters

  • Build extensive partnerships with other groups conducting civic engagement related to voting, and associated online and social media networking and promotion efforts.
